Packing Tips:
- Start packing early. Don't wait until the last minute to try to pack everything. Make this move as easy and smooth as possible for you.
- Pack one room at a time to avoid future problems when you unpack.
- Pack all jewelry, valuables, and other personal belongings yourself. These items should travel with you, not in the moving truck.
- Be careful packing. Use smaller boxes for heavier items; don't just use one big box for everything. Try to pack all boxes less than 50 pounds. A mover is not responsible for items packed by the customer. Seal all boxes with durable tape on the top and bottom.
- Label boxes. Make it easy for yourself when you go to unpack and for your movers so they know which room a box should go in.
- Clothing may be left in dresser drawers, but remove all breakables, paper, books, candles, perfumes, liquids and fragile items that may damage the furniture. Pack these items in separate boxes.
- For electrical goods such as stereos, DVD/CD players and kitchen items, see if you still have the original box. If you don't, pack in a larger box and fill in with extra packing to ensure that the unit is fully protected during transport. Remove all DVD/CD's from the player before packing and disconnect all wiring before the movers arrive. Label the wires, wrap separately in plastic bags and pack in the same box as the unit but not where it might damage a delicate surface. Don't forget to pack remote controls.
- TV sets should be completely disconnected before the mover arrives. After delivered to your new home, the television set should not be turned on until the temperature of the unit reaches the same temperature of your home.
- For computers, pack in original box if you still have it. If not, wrap with protective padding like a blanket and put in a box. Make sure to put lots of extra padding around the monitor and all other parts of the computer. If you have a printer, pack in the same manner as a computer, but remove ink cartridges from the printer.
- We do not move firearms or ammunition on the moving truck. Any firearms should be packed yourself and travel with you.
- Do not pack flammables. Changes in temperature and pressure could cause these to leak or explode. For your own protection, you may even want to just get rid of things like paint, petrol, gas cylinders, aerosol cans, fireworks, matches, lighter fluid, cleaning fluids (Clorox, Tide, etc). You may be held liable for these items on the moving truck, not the movers, so be careful with flammables.
- Disassemble all parts of a barbecue pit and wrap parts separately with newspaper, then pack them. Add extra paper around the parts to ensure no movement during travel. Propane tanks cannot be moved. Consult you local gas distributor for the safest way for transport or disposal.
- Drain fuel from power tools, mowers, trimmers, clippers, chain saws, etc. Wrap valuable tools separately and pack in small, sturdy boxes. Also, disconnect all batteries.
- Seal medicine bottle caps with masking tape and pack upright in small boxes. If there is any medicine you may need during the move, carry these with you.
- Wine, champagne, and carbonated beverages can freeze during transport in colder months.
- Drain all water from waterbed mattresses. Fold mattress 20 inches at a time and adjust folds so there are no creases in across the individual baffles. Consult your owner's manual for special instructions for folding and transportation of your mattress. Do not pack your mattress in boxes with sharp or pointed objects.
- Remove bulbs, harps and lampshades parts from lamps. Roll up cord and pack with blankets or sheets, or wrap separately with protective bubble wrap. Wrap shades in tissue paper, not newspaper. Be sure to pack all parts together to make it easy when you unpack.
- Frozen foods must be packed in a freezer and at time of load must be at normal deep-freeze temperature. These items can travel no more than 150 miles and must be at the destination within 24 hours from the time of loading to ensure the safety of the food. If this cannot be accomplished by the above guidelines you may want to think of other ways to move these perishable items.
- Don't wax or polish wood furniture before moving. Sometimes furniture pads may leave imprints on the wood because some product may soften it and make furniture slippery and hard to handle.
- Wrap mirrors and pictures in tissue paper and placed on edge in boxes. The mover will take down large wall or dresser mirrors, wrap with padding, and will transport with special care. Don't place newspaper against painting as this may cause damage.
